Middlesbrough have sold forward Cristhian Stuani to La Liga club Girona for an undisclosed fee.

The 30-year-old Uruguayan front-runner made 28 appearances for Boro last season and scored five times.

Stuani originally moved from Espanyol in July 2015, and proceeded to help the club return to the Premier League. He featured in 68 games and contributed sixteen goals during his stay at the Riverside.

Earlier this week fellow countryman Carlos de Pena, 25, departed Boro after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

He managed only six appearances for Boro and ended last season on loan at Spanish second-tier side Real Oviedo.
