Middlesbrough travel to South Wales to take on Premier League Swansea City in their Capital One Cup quarter-final on Wednesday evening.

Boro are definitely without on loan Chelsea midfielder Josh McEachran due to the terms of the agreement with his parent club. The likes of early favourite Nicky Bailey, Richard Smallwood and Kevin Thomson contest to be his replacement while full-back Justin Hoyte should also earn a recall.

However, sidelined quartet Julio Arca (toe), Mustapha Carayol (knee), Curtis Main (knee) and Rhys Williams (ankle) remain unavailable for the 2004 winners bidding for a fifth straight away victory in the competition.

“Swansea have probably had one of the best defensive records in the league because you can’t get hold of the ball. They keep it off you, you can’t get near their goal,” Boro manager Tony Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “So it’s going to be a tough game for us, let’s not disguise that fact

“And yet we go there with a game plan to try and get a result,” he added. “It’s got to finish on the night so we’ve got to go there and score. We’ll go there and give it a real go.”

Swansea have current doubts over over Leon Britton (knee) and Pablo Hernandez (hip) while goalkeeper Michel Vorm (groin) and Neil Taylor (ankle) are longer-term casualties.

Central defender Ashley Williams also misses the game through suspension.
