Middlesbrough continue to slip down the table after goals in each half from substitute Albert Adomah and Steven Davies gave bottom club Bristol City a 2-0 victory at Ashton Gate.
Ghanaian international Adomah entered the action as a seventeenth-minute replacement and expertly found the top corner to open the scoring just past the half-hour.
That was later added to by Davies early in the second-half to leave the visitors sliding further down into ninth place in the table.
Boro came under early pressure with Neil Kilkenny forcing goalkeeper Jason Steele into action. His opposite number Tom Heaton then wasn’t particularly troubled when Marvin Emnes tried his luck in reply.
Home striker Jon Stead soon departed the contest with a knock and his replacement Adomah received a long pass from Kilkenny and curled in off an upright to earn his side the lead.
Mustpaha Carayol fired over by way of reply but it was the hosts adding to their advantage when a quick 52nd minute free-kick allowed Davies to find the net with an angled finish.
Boro’s Rhys Williams then survived handball claims inside his own area, while Marvin Elliott struck wide wide from the edge of the box following more good work from Adomah.
Goalkeeper Steele later denied Stephen Pearson a third goal as the visitors’ dismal run since the turn of the year was maintained.
