Women supporters of Boro have come top of a survey for their savvy football knowledge, a survey conducted by sports bar chain Walkabout of punters watching World Cup, Champions League and Premiership matches put Boro lasses top of the pile!
Sue Gardner, chair of Middlesborough Official Supporters’ Club said:
‘I wouldn’t say I have excellent knowledge, it’s not bad but definitely a lot of women that go to Boro are very knowledgeable.
‘Middlesbrough is one of the clubs that do have a high following of female fans. That’s why we came top.’
The survey actually showed that female fans nationally are more likely to understand the offside rule than men. 59% of women could identify correct instances of offside whereas only 55% of the males could.
The survey showed that women also appeared to have taken on board the seemingly pointless administrative change which rebranded linesmen as assistant referees.
Men can however hold their heads high from the fact that only a third of women quizzed in the poll could identify the strips of the 20 Premiership clubs.
