Middlesbrough are on their travels again this weekend with a visit to Tony Mowbray’s former club Ipswich Town.

Mowbray will give new striker Kei Kamara the chance to prove his fitness after returning from international duty with Sierra Leone. The 29-year-old was signed from MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City on transfer deadline day.

“He’ll be in and around, the frustration is he’s done no work with the team,” Mowbray told BBC Tees. “Kei will meet us in Ipswich and we’ll have a chat with him and see how he’s feeling, whether the travelling has taken its toll.”

However, Boro are set to be without midfielder Josef Varga, having suffered a hip during Hungary’s recent 3-0 defeat to Romania.

“Josef has done well for us and has adapted pretty quickly to this league which is unique in intensity,” Mowbray continued. “We’ll give him every chance, he’s played his part this season and done very well.”

Newcomer Jacob Butterfield stands by for an immediate debut at Portman Road while full-back Frazer Richardson requires a late check on a groin injury. Fellow defender Seb Hines is still out despite returning to action for the reserves in midweek.

Ipswich are currently without left-back Tyrone Mings (knee ligament) but Tommy Smith has returned unscathed from recent international duty.
