Middlesbrough were held to a 1-1 draw by Nottingham Forest following a controversial late equaliser at the Riverside.

Recently back-in-favour Mustapha Carayol earned them an early second-half advantage that was cancelled out by substitute Darius Henderson with ten minutes remaining.

Weekend goal-hero Danny Graham headed an early Emmanuel Ledesma delivery wide, although the visitors continued to appear dangerous. Jamie Mackie was wayward with a header and Djamel Abdoun blazed over.

Boro keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos was required to save a Simon Cox header and then from Abdoun, while the limping Lee Tomlin was replaced by Albert Adomah. But it was Carayol sending a low shot wide of the post ahead of the break.

Forest’s Mackie went close following it as former Boro favourite Jonathan Greening continued to prompt. However, it was still their opponents forging in front when Carayol received from Adomah and curled his finish into the net.

Goalscorer Carayol went close to another while linking with Grant Leadbitter on the edge of the area, until the visitors levelled despite substitute Henderson appearing to handle as the ball went into the net – thus ending Boro’s run of 11 hours and 54 minutes without conceding a goal at the Riverside.

The Teessiders could still have snatched victory late on as recent arrival Graham struck an upright with a low close-range drive.
