Argentinian midfielder Julio Arca has seen his Middlesbrough contract cancelled by mutual consent.
The 32-year-old has managed just three appearances this season due to a troublesome toe injury and is returning to his homeland to continue his recovery. He briefly resumed training last month but further problems ended his hopes of a return.
Arca made 185 appearances while scoring nine times for the club since arriving from Sunderland almost seven years ago.
He was the longest-serving player at the Riverside and signed a new contract there a couple of years back after being named as player of the year.
