Middlesbrough have dismissed manager Garry Monk after just six months in the role.

That was despite their weekend 2-1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday following second-half goals from Jonny Howson and Ryan Shotton.

Academy manager Craig Liddle takes over on an interim basis while a successor is found for the former Leeds United and Swansea City boss.

Monk was only appointed in June but initially won just four of Boro’s opening thirteen league games.

The Teessiders are currently ninth in the Championship table.
