Defender Stuart Parnaby believes Middlesbrough have shown the kind of character required to earn themselves promotion.

That follows Boro finally achieving their first league win of 2013 courtesy of a late Curtis Main header against Leeds United earlier this week. It brought to an end a dismal sequence of five successive defeats.

“It’s been strange, one of those things,” Parnaby told the Northern Echo. “We didn’t get any breaks, deflections during our run and sometimes you don’t get the rub of the green – that’s what can happen,

“We know we have a good group of lads and it is a great place to be,” he added. “Now we know the quality of squad we have here and we have to push on and earn what we deserve.”

The Teessiders visit promotion rivals Crystal Palace this weekend with a current four-point advantage over Brighton in seventh place.
