Middlesbrough are hoping to sign attacking midfielder Jonny Howson from Norwich City.

The Canaries were expected to demand around £5m for the former Leeds United playmaker, with Boro apparently willing to meet their valuation, reports the Evening Gazette.

However, Leeds are also keen on taking him back to Elland Road while Premier League Burnley are another club following his situation.

Manager Garry Monk is seeking options after allowing Danish winger Viktor Fischer to join Mainz earlier this week and also advising former England international Stewart Downing that he can similarly move on.

Howson, 29, scored six times in twenty-five appearances for the Carrow Road side last season, and is understood to be keen to return north despite still having a couple of years remaining on his current deal.
