Manager Tony Pulis is becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the treatment being handed out by opposition players towards winger Adama Traore.

The Spaniard was again on target for Boro in their latest 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday.

However, the Boro chief insists he needs more protection and is clearly being targeted by opponents.

“Referees have to understand and recognise what’s happening,” Pulis told BBC Tees. “He’s a special talent and he’s got to be protected. Teams aren’t letting him get in motion. If they’re prepared to do that then they have to be punished.”

Traore also scored for Boro in their previous game against Barnsley, and now has five goals in thirty appearances this season.

He’s also twice been sent-off in meetings with former club Aston Villa and neighbours Sunderland.
