Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka was delighted to make progress in the Capital One Cup.
Striker Lee Tomlin scored twice and Bradley Fewster was also on target in a 3-1 victory against Preston North End.
“The main thing is getting through,” Karanka told Boro’s official website. “I wasn’t happy at half-time, but I’m happy with the second half and happy that we got through.
“We got through to the next round and it’s a very important competition,” he added. “Preston worked hard and made it difficult for us. I liked them because they kept fighting, even right at the end.”
