Head coach Aitor Karanka wasn’t especially satisfied following Middlesbrough’s 2-0 pre-season friendly victory at Hartlepool United.

Substitutes Adam Reach and Bradley Fewster were each on target but the Spaniard felt his charges lacked sufficient tempo during a scoreless opening half.

“I told the players before the game we could dictate how the game would go,” Karanka told the Evening Gazette. “I told them if they wanted an easy game, they could have an easy game but in the first half the game did not go how we wanted.

“I was disappointed how we played in the first half because our movement was not good, our tempo with the ball was too slow and we lacked intensity when we didn’t have the ball.”
