Middlesbrough fell to a 2-1 defeat to promotion rivals Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Joe Bryan and Jamie Paterson both scored for the hosts early in the second-half before Hordur Magnusson headed into his own net.
Britt Assombalonga struck over for the visitors during the early exchanges, while Darren Randolph was forced to parry at the other end and John Brownhill almost took advantage of another cross.
The Robins again went close when Assombalonga cleared from near the line after Randolph initially punched away a free-kick and Marlon Pack followed up.
Randolph was called upon again following a Nathan Baker header before Fabio’s fierce reply tested home keeper Frank Fielding.
Bobby Reid proved too high for the home side soon after the restart, but the unmarked Bryan then headed in a cross sent towards the far post
Three minutes later Aden Flint delivered on the break and Paterson drove low to increase the lead.
Boro introduced the returning Rudy Gestede from the bench – and were offered some hope as Adam Forshaw’s 75th minute cross was headed past his own keeper by Magnusson.
