Head coach Aitor Karanka was disappointed after Middlesbrough failed to take their recent improvement into their FA Cup tie with Hull City.

The visitors secured themselves a place in the fourth round draw courtesy of a goal in each half from Aaron McLean and Nick Proschwitz at the Riverside.

“We had a very good chance to win the game today because Hull City made a lot of changes from their first 11,” Karanka told Boro’s official website. “If we played like we played against Burnley I think we were capable of winning this game. But they were much better than us.

“We forget sometimes who we are and what we need to win the game,” he continued. “When you play against a team in a higher league you have to have more intensity. Today in the first half we didn’t have this intensity and they did us.”
