Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray says striker Marvin Emnes can make a real difference if he remains at the Riverside.

The Dutchman appeared as a second-half substitute against Blackpool at the weekend and proceeded to grab an injury-time equaliser to rescue a late point.

“I’m delighted that chance fell to Marvin. He’s such a talented, technical footballer. And when the ball fell to him he was so composed,” Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “He has dealt with issues and the fans showed some unhappiness with him in the last home game. That has dented his confidence.

“If he stays he will definitely help us,” he added. “He is the type of player we like – comfortable with the ball at his feet. He scored 18 goals two seasons ago, and I want to help him.”
