Double boost for Boro

Manager Tony Mowbray says that when fit, Middlesbrough skipper Rhys Williams is worth two players rolled into one.

The Australian international is currently recovering from ankle ligament damage which has ruled him out of action since the opening month of the season.

However, the 24-year-old is stepping up his schedule and hopes to return to duty inside the next fortnight. His availability would undoubtedly prove a major boost to Boro over the crucial festive period.

“Rhys being unavailable for long, long spells has been a drain,” Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “The days we’ve been struggling in midfield he would have been there, the days we have been toiling at the back he would have played there. So he’s been like the loss of two players for so long.”
