Middlesbrough are to sign Norwich City midfielder Jonny Howson and Derby County defender Cyrus Christie within the next twenty-four hours.

Playmaker Howson, 29, was having a medical today having agreed to a £4.5m move from the Canaries following Boro’s initial offer being rejected.

Both his former club Leeds United and neighbours Sunderland were also particularly interested in acquiring his services.

Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland international full-back Christie, 24, is similarly bound for the Riverside, reports the Northern Echo, after a fee of around £2.2m was agreed between the two clubs.
