Former Middlesbrough striker Mido has retired from the game at the age of just thirty.

Mido was signed by then manager Gareth Southgate from Tottenham Hotspur for £6m in August 2007.

But he proceeded to appear in just 25 league games while scoring six times for Boro, and had loan spells with Wigan Athletic, El Zamalek, West Ham United and Ajax until leaving the club in January 2011.

The Egyptian who was capped more than fifty times for his country then managed just a solitary game during a stint with Barnsley last season.
