On loan forward Sammy Ameobi is still keeping faith that Middlesbrough can make the end-of-season play-offs.

The 20-year-old has to date started three games for the club since arriving on loan from Newcastle United until the end of the season.

He immediately scored on his debut in the 2-1 defeat of leaders Cardiff City at the beginning of last month, but has recently witnessed faltering Boro slipping outside the top six of the table.

“We can still make the play-offs,” Ameobi told the Northern Echo. “That’s still the major aim. I genuinely think we still have every chance of getting there.

“There’s still plenty of points to play for and I’m just looking forward to the next game,” he added. “Hopefully, we can win that and progress
and still get to the play-offs.”

That next game for the Teessiders is a visit to relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers this coming weekend.
