Middlesbrough’s next visit to Swansea City must come in the Premier League according to midfielder Grant Leadbitter.

The 26-year-old went close for the visitors before they eventually lost out to a late Seb Hines own-goal in their Capital One Cup quarter-final at the Liberty Stadium.

And while readily acknowledging that the Boro dressing room was understandably a very quite place immediately after the game, Leadbitter was hoping the disappointment achieves in further strengthening the resolve within the squad to finally progress out of the current division.

“We don’t want to be a nearly team, we want to win things,” he told the Evening Gazette. “We can’t dwell on Swansea, we played well but lost the game and have to move on.

“We want to come back here in the Premier League next year – that has to be our aim,” Leadbitter continued. “I want to do well against Premier League players and I feel we’ve got Premier League players in our squad. We’ve got talented players, gifted players and we have to work hard to get out of this league.”
