Middlesbrough could face a real fight to keep left-back George Friend following increased interest from the Premier League.

Both West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United are considering an approach for the former Doncaster Rovers defender who only joined the Teessiders in a bargain £100,000 deal last summer.

The 25-year-old has since started 22 of their league games so far this season and continued to really impress at the Riverside.

The two Premier League clubs were understood to again have representation at Boro’s narrow 1-0 defeat at Leicester City on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, manager Tony Mowbray was waiting to learn the full extent of fellow full-back Justin Hoyte’s injury after limping off early at the King Power Stadium.
