Leeds United’s new signing Billy Sharp scored a late winner to consign Middlesbrough to their first defeat of the season at Elland Road.
The former Southampton marksman struck after goalkeeper Tomas Mejias parried from substitute Michael Tonge with just a couple of minutes remaining.
Boro had earlier witnessed Albert Adomah’s spectacular effort being controversially disallowed.
Spanish keeper Mejias was forced to smother from Sharp during the opening stages and Daniel Ayala cleared the rebound.
However, Adomah appeared to give the visitors the lead with an acrobatic overhead kick from a defensive header by Liam Cooper – until a raised assistant’s flag.
Adomah was then denied by a timely defensive block from Stephen Warnock while Lee Tomlin’s shot was also charged down.
Newcomer Sharp later headed wide from Meijas’ missed punch, until pouncing for the winner with just a couple of minutes remaining.
