Mustapha Carayol was praised by head coach Aitor Karanka after coming off the bench to score twice for Middlesbrough in their 2-0 victory at Blackpool.

The 25-year-old Gambian struck twice during the final ten minutes to earn the visitors a fourth win in five league games at the expense of their struggling opponents.

“Everybody knows what kind of player Muzzy is,” Karanka told Boro’s official website. “Last week he wasn’t in the team and today he scored two goals. When he plays like he can he’s a fantastic player. He needs to be more consistent, work very hard and do this every game.

“It was a very important result, another unbeaten game, three more points and it’s important to get back to winning after losing against Hull City in the FA Cup,” he added. “Keeping a clean sheet is also important for the confidence and it was on a very difficult pitch where they play long balls very well and have tall players. I’m very happy for this.”
