Ten-man Middlesbrough were totally undone as Derby County striker Matej Vydra scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory at the Riverside.

The Czech earned the visitors a tenth-minute lead before adding his second from the penalty spot after being fouled by the later dismissed Daniel Ayala.

He then seized upon a weak Darren Randolph clearance to complete his hat-trick just past the hour-mark, as the two clubs swapped places in the table.

Martin Braithwaite’s 25-yard free-kick had earlier cleared the bar before keeper Scott Carson superbly denied Britt Assombalonga.

That appeared even more significant when Vydra drove into the roof of the net after a failed attempt to clear by the home defence.

Tom Lawrence next struck directly at Randolph, with Assombalonga heading wide at the other end; although Vydra duly added his second from the penalty spot two minutes after the interval.

Spanish defender Ayala then received his marching orders when bringing down former Boro striker David Nugent.

And it soon grew even worse for the hosts as Vydra completed his hat-trick from keeper Randolph’s miscued clearance.

Randolph later kept out both Andreas Weimann and Lawrence, while substitute Adama Traore replied wide from the edge of the area.
