Middlesbrough recovered from conceding an early goal to earn a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at the Riverside.

The Baggies went in front after just six minutes when ex-Boro man James Morrison drilled low into the corner from distance.

However, Alvaro Negredo was then caught by Gareth McAuley inside the area and slotted in from the resultant penalty.

In between those another former Boro player, Chris Brunt, despatched a dipping volley over the crossbar.

The hosts were demanding another penalty as Cristhian Stuani went down in the box while an Adama Traore delivery almost produced an own-goal, although Victor Valdes soon reacted well to keep out Craig Dawson.

The visitors went close following the restart with Matt Phillips heading onto the woodwork and Salomon Rondon sending the rebound against the opposite post.

Marten de Roon had a reply tipped over by Ben Foster from Adam Clayton’s cross while Bernardo similarly threatened from the corner.

Both Negredo and skipper Ben Gibson saw later attempts charged down, with Brunt denied by Valdes and Phillips wide at the other end.
