If Gareth Barry has a price tag of £20million then surely Boro’s winger, Stewart Downing, is worth that amount as well..
Reports in today’s papers have suggested that Rafa Benitez is back on the trail of signing Middlesbrough boy, Stewart Downing.
Apparently Benitez will table a bid of £10million for Boro’s main man.
What a joke! He has just signed a five-year deal, which to the Liverpool boss is only worth £10million. Hilarious Rafa.
I know it is only press speculation but these stories do have to start somewhere.
As a life-long fan of Boro I would not forgive the club if we were to sell Downing for less than £20million.
Just ask Villa fans, they will tell you the same about Gareth Barry.
It’s absolutely ridiculous that a player such as Downing, who has been a constant performer season after season in the Premier League can be sold to a big club for as little as £10million.
He is an England international and has recently been praised by Fabio Capello for his performances for club and country.
So if Benitez is reading this, here are the facts about SD to consider before making an offer:
1. He’s only 23-years-old.
2. A current England player.
3. He has just penned a long-term contract with Boro.
4. He has an awesome left-foot.
5. He can dj for the end of year players presentation.
This lot in my book accumulates to well over £20million worth of talent.
