New manager Tony Pulis takes charge of Middlesbrough for the first time against fellow promotion challengers Aston Villa at the Riverside.

The former West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City supremo took only a watching brief as Boro overcame Bolton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

He has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the game as the hosts attempt to break back into the top seven.

The visitors have skipper John Terry back in full training following his broken metatarsal keeping him out for the previous nine games.

Former Boro winger Albert Adomah will need checking, though, after suffering a knock during the midweek defeat at Brentford.

Villa are currently level on points with their weekend opponents, but already missing defender Chris Samba, midfielder Henri Lansbury [both hamstring] and strikers Gabby Agbonlahor and Jonathan Kodjia [both ankle].
