Middlesbrough have another key encounter when hosting second-placed Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3.00pm).

Winger Adama Traore could receive an instant recall having missed out in the latest draw at Barnsley due to failing to make the team bus.

Fellow wide-man Marvin Johnson was also expected to be available following a recent knock.

Striker Rudy Gestede (thigh) is the hosts’ only confirmed absentee but may be back within a fortnight.

The visitors are able to call on defender Callum Paterson for the first time since his summer move from Hearts.

Icelandic midfielder Aron Gunnarsson (ankle) was also hoping to be available, but Jazz Richards (ankle) and Kadeem Harris (knee) remain sidelined.
