Middlesbrough have Steve Agnew in caretaker charge following the departure of Aitor Karanka as they prepare to welcome Manchester United to the Riverside on Sunday lunchtime (kick-off 12.00pm).

The Teessiders could have Bernardo Espinosa and Rudy Gestede available following knocks while Adlene Guedioura returns having been recently cup-tied.

However, defensive trio Daniel Ayala (hamstring), Calum Chambers (foot) and George Friend (calf) remain sidelined for the hosts.

“I have to be honest, [Thursday] was a really difficult and emotional day,” caretaker boss Agnew admitted to BBC Sport. “Aitor Karanka put in incredible work over the last three and a half years. I really enjoyed his work and his company during my two and a half years working with him. But today the players have trained well and we look forward to the weekend.”

The visitors are without suspended duo Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ander Herrera, while Paul Pogba (hamstring) also misses out and Daley Blind (head) is rated doubtful.

But Wayne Rooney, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial could be available.
