Now back on the edge of the play-offs, Middlesbrough host neighbours Sunderland at the Riverside on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 12.15pm).

The Teessiders were hopeful that Brazilian full-back Fabio would recover after suffering an ankle injury during their midweek triumph at Hull City. George Friend will stand-by in case.

Otherwise Boro have a virtually full-strength squad at their disposal as they target a third successive victory, with striker Rudy Gestede [thigh] back training but not yet ready for action.

Following Simon Grayson’s midweek departure, the Black Cats’ caretaker managers Billy McKinlay and Robbie Stockdale are attempting to end a thirteen-game sequence without a league win.

Defender Tyias Browning is ruled out for them with a hamstring problem, but Paddy McNair could make a first start in almost twelve months.
