Grant Leadbitter has called for major improvements from both himself and his Middlesbrough colleagues this season.

It follows Boro falling away badly after Christmas last term and into an eventual hugely disappointing thirteenth-place finish in the Championship.

“We’ve got to be better next season,” Leadbitter insisted to the Evening Gazette. “We’ve got to win games, simple as that. We’ve got to win 30 odd games to get out of this league.

“Next season I’ve got to play better, the fans expect us to play well,” he maintained. “I want to produce performances next season that will get this club out of this league because that’s what we need.”

The 27-year-old scored four times in 47 appearances for Boro last term having arrived from Ipswich Town during the summer.
