Middlesbrough have cancelled midfielder Kevin Thomson’s contract by mutual consent.
The 28-year-old was recruited by former manager Gordon Strachan in a £2m deal from Rangers in July 2010.
But a succession of injury problems restricted his involvement to 38 starts and eighteen substitute appearances.
The Scottish international has continued to be a fringe player this term while featuring in a dozen games and only nine times in the league.
Elsewhere, Boro’s teenage forward Jake Fowler has joined non-league Stockport County on a month’s loan.
