Middlesbrough midfielder Julio Arca is still struggling for proper fitness due to an ongoing toe problem.
The Argentine underwent surgery in mid-October and had been expected to return to action early in the New Year.
But manager Tony Mowbray admitted that the 32-year-old is still experiencing some discomfort whenever training.
“Julio had an operation on his big toe which, for a footballer, is a very, very sensitive part of his body,” Mowbray explained to the Evening Gazette. “There’s been times when he has been out training but then there’s been some soreness. If anybody kicks it, or stands on it, it’s very, very delicate and uncomfortable for him.”
Arca has made almost two hundred senior appearances for Boro since joining from Sunderland nearly seven years ago but is out of contract at the end of the season.
