Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray says supporters should expect more of his younger players to go out on loan.

It follows young reserve centre-back Christian Burgess moving out to neighbours Hartlepool United, now managed by former Boro coach Colin Cooper.

Mowbray has been impressed by the development of fellow defender Ben Gibson, who spent much of last season on loan at Tranmere Rovers.

“Fans should expect one or two of the younger players going out on loan,” he told BBC Tees. “The benefits are there for us all to see, I’ve seen Ben Gibson grow since going away last year.

“Young players are doing fine at our club but our target to get out of this league and at the same time develop players but sometimes that balance doesn’t fit,” Mowbray added.
