Middlesbrough chief Tony Mowbray remains concerned by a succession of hamstring injuries at the club.

Dutch striker Marvin Emnes became the latest player to join the extensive list after being forced to miss the 3-1 defeat at Derby County on New Year’s Day.

“We are looking long and hard into why we have similar injuries to so many players,” Mowbray told BBC Tees. “The workload they put in every week to achieve what they’ve done so far is possibly catching up with a few.

“A lot of the injuries are game injuries, things they’ve picked up in games, and sometimes it happens in football,” he added.

Seb Hines, Andre Bikey, George Friend and Faris Haroun were all unavailable for the visit to Pride Park with the same condition, while Jonathan Woodgate was similarly affected by the injury earlier in the campaign.
