Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray remains confident he can get the best out of Mustapha Carayol and Emmanuel Ledesma this season.

Both arrived at the Riverside last summer from lower divisions with Carayol coming in from Bristol Rovers and Ledesma from Walsall.

However, Carayol suffered an unfortunate knee injury which sidelined him for around five months while Ledesma struggled with form and failed to earn himself a regular place in the side.

“I think they’ll have benefited from last season, no matter how much they played,” Mowbray told the Northern Echo. “Muzzy started so well but then he suffered a bad injury and missed five months of the season. When he came back he showed again what he can do.

“Manu is a delight to work with. He’s a great professional and he’s got bags of talent,” he continued. “It’s a big step up but I think he’s showed he has the quality to bridge that gap.”
