Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray should be boosted by the return of some of his leading players over the next couple of games.

Defenders Jonathan Woodgate (calf) and George Friend (hamstring), together with Belgian midfielder Faris Haroun (calf), are each closing in on a recall following recent knocks.

However, Mowbray must decide whether to pitch them straight back into action during the televised clash at Birmingham City tomorrow evening, or wait until the visit to bottom club Peterborough United eight days later.

“I think there’s a few players who’ve got a chance for Friday night,” Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “I think Friend’s got every chance of being fit for Peterborough, Woodgate’s definitely got a chance for Peterborough, Haroun’s got a fair chance for Peterborough.

“If we risk them tomorrow night it might be a gamble too much. But we’ll wait and see,” he warned.
