Manager Tony Mowbray praised the courage of striker Marvin Emnes after helping fire Middlesbrough to victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.

The Dutchman came off the bench and converted an 89th minute penalty before then fashioning an injury-time second goal for Scott McDonald as Boro recorded a second successive league success at the Riverside.

“Marvin`s been under the weather for the last couple of weeks and on Friday he was sent home ill suffering from sickness and diarrhoea,” Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “But he phoned me personally on Saturday morning to say he’d had a good night’s sleep and had been able to take on some fluids into his body and wanted to sit on the bench and that’s great credit to him.”

Their victory help the third-placed Teessiders reduce the gap at the top of the table as the closest rivals both dropped points.
