Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray was concerned history might just have been repeating itself at Peterborough United on Saturday.
Boro forged into an early two-goal advantage against their struggling hosts before they fought back well to leave the contest very much back in the balance. Fortunately, substitute Ishmael Miller grabbed a late winner for the visitors shortly after his introduction.
Eight days earlier Mowbray had seen his side twice squander a lead against Birmingham City on the way to going down by the same 3-2 scoreline at St Andrew’s.
“I sat there at 2-2 and I thought of last Friday, losing a lead twice, losing the game ultimately, but our changes in the second half helped us,” Mowbray admitted to the Northern Echo. “Miller was a thorn in their side, he helped us. He smashed in the winner for us.
“They’d lost 4-1 in their last two home games, and yet the evidence we’d seen is that they’re a very good football team,” he admitted. “They ask questions of you, they have some talented players and going forward they give teams real problems. Peterborough are a good side and will cause problems for teams, but Saturday was all about the three points.”
