New Year signings unlikely

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray will probably only add to his squad during the forthcoming January transfer window if one of his current players leaves.

Boro are already sitting nicely in third place in the table at present despite having had to cope with a number of key absentees through the first half of the season.

However, with Rhys Williams, Mustapha Carayol, Julio Arca and Curtis Main all due to shortly return from lengthy injury lay-offs, Mowbray doesn’t anticipate adding to his options unless a key member departs.

“We’re not really in the market place to add more players in January,” Mowbray told the Northern Echo. “We’re going to have some real selection headaches about who’s getting left out and who’s sitting in the stands as opposed to on the bench.

“So I’m not here looking at trying to get a load more players in January,” he added. “We’re trying to manage the squad, although if there are any outs there might be an in.”
