Newcomer Kenneth Omeruo is ready to claim a regular starting place with Middlesbrough after making his debut at the weekend.

The 20-year-old Nigerian international was handed his first start at right-back in the scoreless draw at Doncaster Rovers following his recent loan move from Chelsea.

“I really enjoyed it. It is much better playing in games than watching,” Omeruo told the Evening Gazette. “The game was very hard work and a real battle but I knew what to expect. And I don’t mind a bit of a fight.

“I have watched a lot of Boro games over the past few weeks and I know that this is a very, very tough division. Every team fights from the start to the finish and there is no let up in any game,” he added. “And I think I did that. It was a tough game but I think I played well. I love to play. I was just disappointed that my first game was not a win.”
