Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has no real plans to offer former midfielder Barry Robson a contract.

The 34-year-old left Boro at the end of last season to join MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps but has since failed to settle in Canada.

Robson is now back in this country looking for a new club and to work on his own fitness. As such he was expected at Rockliffe Park for training today, although that appears as far as it will go.

“We’re just helping Barry out,” Mowbray told the Evening Gazette. “He contacted me and asked if he could train with us to keep fit. He was a good professional when he was here, he trained hard and gave his all in games, so we are happy to help.

“We’ve moved on since Barry left,” he added. “We’ve brought new players in and my consideration is managing them.”
