Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray insists that no offers have yet been received for talented left-back George Friend.

That follows recent interest from the Premier League with both West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United believed to be considering an approach.

The 25-year-old only joined Boro in a bargain £100,000 deal from Doncaster Rovers for the start of this season.

“The phone hasn’t rung for George,” Mowbray confirmed to the Evening Gazette. “I’d have to say George Friend has been fabulous for us this year.

“And if teams are doing their jobs, why aren’t they looking at George Friend because he’s shown what a talent he can be,” he added. “He can defend, he can attack, he’s extremely mobile and he’s learning all the time.”
