No panic from Mowbray

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray won’t be making any rushed buys in January despite a couple more injuries during the New Year’s Day defeat to Derby County.

Boro lost central defender Jonathan Woodgate before half-time and ten-goal striker Scott McDonald for the entire second-half of the 3-1 defeat at Pride Park.

Meanwhile, George Friend, Marvin Emnes, Justin Hoyte and Josh McEachran were amongst those already ruled out for the visitors alongside the longer-term Julio Arca, Curtis Main and Muzzy Carayol.

“I don’t feel anymore pressure to get someone in,” Mowbray told the Northern Echo. “Everybody is two to three weeks maximum. It’s tiredness that has caused tiny little ruptures, but there’s no panic and thankfully now there’s a little break from the league programme. We can give a few players a rest this weekend and hopefully when we return to league action we’ll be in better shape.”
