No worries from Mowbray

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray isn’t especially concerned regarding five of his current squad being out of contract in the summer.

The deals of Nicky Bailey, Julio Arca, Andy Halliday, Stephen McManus and Andre Bikey all end in July, although there is the option of an extension for recent signing Bikey, while talks are understood to be in progress regarding Halliday.

Meanwhile, Boro have already indicated they wont stand in McManus` way if he negotiates a long-term deal with Bristol City next month.

“A few of those players were signed in a different era and the club were probably going for it under Gordon Strachan,” Mowbray explained to the Evening Gazette. “Some of them are not just short term contracts, some are long term contracts coming to an end.

“If they are on a different level financially from where we are now currently then we have to abide by that really,” he added. “There’s one or two who are coming out of contract who are playing their part in helping us to try and get out of this league.”
