Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald believes the win at Watford can really help kick-start their promotion challenge.

The 29-year-old snatched the winner on his first appearance of the season in a 2-1 success at Vicarage Road to leave Boro on a real high going into the international break this weekend.

That follows a rather mixed start to their campaign in which they have won five and lost four of their opening ten league games.

“It’s a nice way to go into a two-week break with a feel good factor,” McDonald told the Northern Echo. “Hopefully we can bring that on, have a good couple of weeks training as a squad and start again against Brighton next weekend.

“Consistency is what it’s about in this league. If you can get a couple of wins you’re right up there,” he continued.” It’s anybody’s league. We’re quite confident that we can be up there come the end of the season. We just need to string a few results together.”
