Reality check from Mowbray

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has warned supporters to be realistic over their expectations regarding summer targets.

Mowbray and his scouting team are already trawling across several European leagues searching for potential new recruits for next season.

He will check through available free transfers from the lower leagues in France, Spain, Belgium and Holland, although his most notable acquisition could still actually come in the form of a loan player.

“A lot of lads wait for me outside after games and give me names of players they’d like me to sign,” Mowbray told the Northern Echo. “Yet the harsh reality of it is, we would all like to sign a, in an extreme example, Wayne Rooney or a Robin van Persie, and yet we can’t.

“Some of the names might be Championship players this year and yet the reality is we can’t go and prize certain players away from clubs even though we might like to,” he continued. “Some of the targets people have in mind are just unrealistic. Do they want to come here? How much money are they on? How much will they cost? All this has to come into it.”
