Former Middlesbrough midfielder Barry Robson is set to return to the Riverside tomorrow after failing to settle in Canada.

The 34-year-old has asked permission to train with his previous employers following the cancellation of his contract with MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps.

That means the Scot will miss out on regular pre-season training as he continues to look for a new club. Boro manager Tony Mowbray has already previously allowed the likes of Jeremie Aliadiere, Mido and Stuart Parnaby to come back and be involved with his first-team squad.

Robson only moved to Vancouver last June and promptly scored three times in sixteen appearances, although his combative style didn’t always convince home fans.

Scottish Premier League strugglers Dundee are being linked with a possible approach for a player who has already represented both their city rivals and Celtic.
