Middlesbrough will be without only striker Rudy Gestede for the visit of Cardiff City this weekend.

The 29-year-old hasn’t featured since late August after a dead-leg suffered in training brought complications.

However, the former Aston Villa marksman could be back on the scene within the next fortnight.

“We expect him out in full training in just under two weeks’ time,” manager Garry Monk told The Northern Echo. “We are happy with how Rudy is progressing, he’s back on the grass running, that’s good. The medical department are happy so we should look at him being back in training soon.”

Winger Adama Traore is firmly back in contention after being left out of the squad at Barnsley due to missing the team bus travelling to South Yorkshire – an issue that has now been resolved.

Marvin Johnson similarly wasn’t involved at Oakwell because of a slight knock but has since recovered.
